Amethyst's parent's Recognition was an odd one. During a Challenge, their souls Recognized, but their minds denied it. Kalem had Recognized before and it took the soul of his dead mate to bring Tigerstar and Kalem together. Even with the demands of Recognition met, the two elves were still unaware that they had Recognized. Kalem left the Holt and returned only a few moons before Tigerstar was due to go into labor. His mind was clouded by an evil being that wanted to use Amethyst for his own. With the intervention of Wildberry and Kestra, Kalem's soul was freed from darkness and he finally came to realize that he truly loved Tigerstar. When he admitted this to Tigerstar, she realized that she loved him as well and the memory of their Recognition returned to them. Kalem stayed with Tigerstar after that.
Shortly after this, Kestra left the Holt with her lovemate and when Tigerstar went into labor, Wildberry was also away from the Holt. Wolfcat Skyfire was only too happy to assist Tigerstar in the birthing of the next chief. when Tigerstar went into labor, Skyfire's worst fears were realized: Tigerstar's body had not properly prepared itself for birthing a cub. While Skyfire fought to save both mother and cub, Tigerstar entered her own battle of wills. Her spirit had been weakened by recent events in the tribe and with the strain of a bad childbirth, she was ready to give up the mortal plane. Starlock approached her spirit and gave her a choice: stay with the tribe and lead them, or bring the cub and join him and their parents.
Amethyst did not want to die, so she called for help. Wildberry, who was returning with Felladin, heard the unborn's plea and rushed her wolf back to the Holt. She made it to the Holt only moments before Skyfire was going to cut Tigerstar to take the cub. Wildberry's healing skills quickly revealed the battle that Tigerstar was in with herself, but Wildberry could not help both mother and cub at once; the healer had Kalem call Tigerstar back with his love while she helped Tigerstar's body prepare itself for birth. Exhausted, the healer stepped aside and allowed Skyfire to finish the birthing.
Amethyst was born with a strong sending ability. It is suspected that she has other talents, but they have not been revealed.
